helps customers meet their business
objectives by employing the advantages of client/server
solutions. We help customers migrate host-based
applications to client/server solutions and incorporate
client/server solutions into their LAN or intranet
environments
Client/Server architectures permit users to share
common resources in a distributed computer environment.
helps customers meet their business
objectives by employing the advantages of client/server
solutions.
Our staff can also analyze customer requirements and
the associated cost-benefit trade-offs of client/server
technology alternatives to determine specific
client/server solutions. We often work with our strategic
partners during the design phase of a client/server
integration project to ensure that the appropriate
client/server technology is included in the recommended
solution.
client/server integration includes
product fulfillment, delivery, installation, and
administration of associated hardware systems and
software components. Software components include the
operating system, application, storage management, and
database software. The objectives of these activities is
to provide stable client and server platforms for which
the customer and software component can incorporate a
required objective.

Depending
on factors such as the total number of users, number of
concurrent users, types of queries (decision-support or
transaction), thru-put requirements, and database size will define the appropriate client/server database
software components and licenses. These factors are also
evaluated to determine the required number processors,
memory size, and bandwidth to be implemented. Our
objective is to design a balanced client/server
configuration in terms of networking, clients, servers,
and associated resources to reduce the overall cost and
minimize performance bottlenecks while providing long
range investment protection of the core components.

with integration partners can help customers understand
the important trade-offs between 2-tier and 3-tier
client/server architectures.

New
business processes and associated technology are
generally not effective unless the customer and its
systems integrator understand the business objectives
that the customer expects to achieve from the innovations
being implemented.

's desire
for excellence in Customized Design Solutions is only
surpassed by its demand for customer satisfaction.
Successful implementation results can only be achieved by
our extensive efforts in the following areas.

and associated resources to minimize the overall cost and
performance bottlenecks while providing long range

Systems
Management Services
provides client/server
system management services to help customers meet
requirements for system availability and maintainability.
These services include mass storage management functions,
system monitoring, and change management. Mass storage
management functions include the definition and
administration of the appropriate Raid methodology, disk
volumes, and configuration of disk partitions as required
by the application.
Depending
upon customer requirements Raid-0, Raid-1, or Raid-5 may
be applicable for a particular server. Raid-0 (stripping)
offers the best performance while not providing disk
error recovery, Raid-1 (mirroring) offers optimum
performance and disk error recovery at the highest cost,
while Raid-5 provides a compromise solution between
Raid-0 and Raid-1 by providing a parity bit for error
recovery. System monitoring software provides for
detection of errors and system performance degradation so
that corrective action can be taken. Change management
ensures that system software changes are coordinated and
do not cause user or system interruptions.
High
Availability Configuration
To
provide high availability configurations with no single
point of failure, a cluster of two or more systems are
cross-connected to common mass storage. Depending on the
support provided by the client/server application, these
solutions employ symmetric or asymmetric configurations.
Symmetric configurations are the most efficient because
all systems normally share the overall server workload
and upon a system failure the processing performed by the
failing system is assumed by the remaining operative
systems. Asymmetric failsafe switches the processing
workload to a warm standby system when the primary system
fails. A monitor, running in each system,
detects system failures and initiates transfer of control to the good system. A disadvantage of an
asymmetric configuration is that the warm standby system
is not normally used for productive purposes until the
primary system fails.
